Why Retreat?
Creative work and community leadership require energy and focus. Educators, writers, administrators, librarians, and community leaders often find themselves overwhelmed by the demands of work and everyday life. A Writing Yoga® retreat offers the opportunity to reconnect with your purpose and return to your projects with renewed creativity, clarity, and inspiration.
A Writing Yoga® retreat provides the space and tools to reflect and reset. Through simple mindfulness practices, creative writing sessions, and gentle movement, your team will gain practical tools to:
-
FEEL CALM: Reduce stress and improve focus.
-
BE MORE CREATIVE: Explore local history, literature, and the natural world through immersive experiences.
-
WORK WITH COMPASSION: Strengthen collaboration and communication.
-
RETURN INSPIRED: Feel refreshed, confident, and ready to thrive!
Why Writing Yoga®?
Developed by poet, librarian, educator, and yoga teacher Stefanie Maura, the Writing Yoga® Method has helped schools, libraries, individuals and organizations cultivate calmer, more creative, and compassionate communities since 2007.
Writing Yoga® is grounded in research and reflective practices. Participants develop habits that promote calm, creativity, and compassionate leadership. It is a unique educational approach to focus and creativity!

What Your Team Will Experience
Every retreat is customized to meet your organization's unique goals and may include:
- Tools for Calm and Focused Work: Gentle stretching, breathing exercises, and mindfulness practices that help participants reduce stress and improve focus.
- Creative Exploration and Reflection: Guided journaling and writing activities encourage reflection, curiosity, and renewed creativity.
- History, Literature & Nature: Retreats held at Cedarmere and the Walt Whitman Birthplace immerse participants in places where history, literature, art, and nature come together to inspire fresh ideas for teaching, writing, and leadership.
- Collaborative Conversations: Facilitated discussions encourage participants to share ideas, strengthen relationships, and explore solutions that support their work and communities.
- Lasting Benefits: The impact of a retreat extends far beyond one day.
When we feel supported, the positive impact extends to our families, colleagues, patrons, students, and communities.
